The questions behind the terms

LVR is the ratio — your loan divided by your property value. LMI is the insurance you pay when that ratio exceeds 80%. Example: on an $800K loan for a $1M property, your LVR is 80% and LMI is not required. At $850K, LVR becomes 85% and LMI applies.
