NCCP (National Consumer Credit Protection Act)

Australia's federal consumer credit law — sets the best-interests duty.

What is NCCP?

The National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 is Australia's federal consumer credit law. It sets responsible-lending standards, licensing requirements (ACL), disclosure obligations, and the best interests duty for mortgage brokers.

Why it matters for you

NCCP protects you as a borrower. Lenders and brokers must make loans that are "not unsuitable" for your circumstances; brokers must recommend loans that are in your best interests (not just acceptable). Breaches can be reported to ASIC and AFCA.
