First Home Owner Grant (FHOG)

State cash grant for first-home buyers — usually new builds only.

What is FHOG?

FHOG is a state-administered cash grant paid to eligible first-home buyers buying or building a new home. Amounts and rules vary by state: NSW and VIC offer $10,000 for new builds; QLD offers $30,000 until mid-2026; WA, SA and TAS all have versions with their own terms.

Why it matters for you

FHOG is only for new-build or substantially renovated homes in most states — not established properties. Often stacked with stamp duty concessions and the First Home Guarantee. Check your state Revenue Office for current rules and caps.
